Plus did trunks continue to train after Z, he works for capsule corp no? so he may have become weaker.

Kid Trunks is stronger than the strongest version of Future Trunks we see. Goten and Trunks are both extremely close to Gohan ,damn near equal to him, in the Boo Saga who is at the least slightly stronger than Cell Games Goku who is much stronger than the strongest version of Future Trunks we ever see.
